Againity Expands Green Electricity Production to Poland

Againity is now entering the Polish market in collaboration with sales representative NPS New Power Sources Sp. z o.o. and the Polish supplier Energika Zbigniew Szamałek Sp. K.

In Againity’s first Polish project, two ORC turbines with a combined capacity of 400 kW have been delivered to the district heating plant in Kozienice, owned by Kozienicka Gospodarka Komunalna Sp. z o.o. The installation marks an important milestone for Againity, which has now sold ORC turbines in a total of eight countries.

“We are expanding our offering with new services,” says Ewelina Szamałek-Garcarek, CEO of Energika. “Previously, we have primarily worked with steam-based combined heat and power, where steam boilers are combined with steam turbines. We are now also offering highly efficient cogeneration where hot water boilers are combined with ORC turbines – both for new installations and for modernization of existing facilities. This is made possible through the partnership agreement with NPS New Power Sources, which forms the basis for projects in Poland and other Eastern European countries. There are, and will continue to be, strong opportunities within the district heating segment.”

Thanks to Energika’s trust in NPS New Power Sources and Againity, the heating plant in Kozienice can increase its electricity production and self-sufficiency. At the same time, the local grid is relieved, as the ORC turbines generate the most electricity when demand is highest. With a total generator capacity of 400 kW, the ORC turbines correspond to the electricity needs of approximately 1,120 single-family homes equipped with solar panels.

Energika, the supplier of the two hot water boilers to the heating plant, is a well-established player in Poland. Againity views the collaboration with Energika and New Power Sources very positively, as it enables the addition of electricity generation from ORC turbines to existing heat production from the boilers.

“We thank Energika and Kozienicka Gospodarka Komunalna for their trust in delivering ORC turbines and enabling on-site renewable electricity production at the Kozienice heating plant,” says David Frykerås, CEO of Againity. “This comes at a time when reducing operating costs and ensuring responsible electricity production are becoming increasingly important.”

During the colder months, when the hot water boilers from Energika operate at peak capacity and electricity prices are at their highest, the ORC turbines generate maximum power output. This leads to significant cost savings and reduces strain on the grid during periods of high demand. The reduced load also creates capacity for grid operators to meet other customers’ electricity needs during the green transition.

The choice of ORC technology for the Kozienice heating plant aligns with the owners’ strategy to invest in environmentally friendly electricity production. Renewable electricity from biomass not only reduces operating costs but also delivers significant climate benefits by replacing fossil coal-based power in the grid.

The installation in Kozienice is Againity’s southernmost to date. With this milestone, Againity continues to drive sustainable development in the global energy sector and actively contributes to shaping a greener and more resource-efficient future. Energy production remains the largest source of global carbon emissions, and replacing fossil fuels with renewable electricity is a key step toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, in line with the EU’s climate targets.
