Background
The heating plant in Moheda is owned by Alvesta Energi AB, which strives to ensure safe and efficient energy supply to residents and businesses in the municipality. The facility includes a 6 MW hot water boiler fired with locally sourced biomass such as wood chips, shavings and bark. To enable small-scale renewable electricity production, Alvesta Energi installed an ORC turbine from Againity.
Our Solution
Againity delivered an automated ORC system with a maximum electrical capacity of 49.9 kW. The system generates electricity from the boiler’s hot water circuit. Expected annual production is 170 MWh, corresponding to emission reductions of 153 tonnes CO2-eq when replacing European marginal electricity. A service agreement ensures long service life and minimal maintenance.

Why did you choose to install an ORC turbine at the heating plant?
– Everyone is looking for efficiency and reliable solutions. I believe there are many small heating plants like ours that would like to produce electricity, but investment budgets are often limited and traditional steam turbines are neither economically nor technically feasible. In that context, an ORC turbine like this is a very positive solution. Renewable electricity is very much in focus today, and we can also present this as a positive environmental initiative.
How has the ORC turbine performed since installation?
– The turbine keeps running and largely takes care of itself. It has been simple and smooth to operate – we hardly notice it. We have also seen direct cost savings after the installation.
How has your collaboration with Againity worked?
– I think the entire process has run smoothly. We have received both the information and the support we requested. We have been well taken care of, and you deliver on your commitments.
